This was one of the messiest gunge videos I've produced to date where I ended up getting my clothing completely trashed where I wore my football kit. This was the 2012 kit which featured a nice combination of the dark bottle green footie shirt with white football shirt. The green gunk ended up going absolutely everywhere and turned me into a green gloopy mess. The gunge used is nastrosol which is similar to the type used on Television and is easy fairly easy to obtain through online retailers.
This video is a loosely based spoof of a portion of the popular saturday morning TV show, Live and Kicking which was a magazine programme which ran from 1993 to 2001. It followed in the footsteps of other shows such as Going Live! The show featured many segments such as phone-ins, games, comedy, competitions and cartoons.
Stop the Snot was the last variation of messy games which featured as part of Live & Kicking's Gunge Tank segment. This game involved a child contestant sitting in the Gunge Tank hot seat where a celeb would answer questions on their behalf within a 60 second time limit while trying to avoid saying the dreaded words, yes or no. Often the celeb would sit in the gunge instead of a kid where the contestant would answer the questions instead. Nobody escaped dry and usually either the celebrity or child failed and the person sitting the gunk ended up getting green gunged and snotted in the gunge tank.
Other messy games included the Leakiest Sink where contestants fought against one another fighting for a chance to meet one of their celebrity idols while taking turns to sit in the gunge tank while the celeb pulled plugs from a sink. One of the plugs was connected to the Gunge Tank and once pulled, the gunge would release and drop onto the victim's head where they other person won and met their celeb.
One of the first messy games was called the Kid Gets It where a child would sit in the gunge tank, sometimes nominated by their friends where they would sit in the Slime Tank and members of the audience including TV viewers were allowed to see a secret trigger word on a piece of card. A celeb was blind folded while this was shown then had to answer questions about themselves without saying the trigger word. If they said the trigger word then kid got it and ended up getting gunged on tv.
Another gunge game was also called the Kid Gets It but featured a court room style set where two friends for example could fight a case against one another with one participant acting as the defendent while the other as the prosecution. A panel of celebrity judges decided who was the guilty party and they escorted into the Gunge Tank to be slimed!
There are plenty of activities you can get involved with to raise money for comic relief with getting gunged being one of most fun and exciting activities. One of my early memories from Primary School was a sponsored sponge a teacher event which had gone down as a blast! Another memory from High School involved students waxing their legs and dying of hair though I wasn't keen on either of those!
So what exactly is Gunge? Gunge is an especially gooey, think or runny liquid substance which resembles paint, milk or custard. It has been used many times on Television shows and also at public events for many decades particularly in the 80's and 90's and is still very popular today particularly with the introduction of the internet where online video sharing has become more popular than watching terrestrial TV.
Being Slimed or Gunged is extremely messy though surprisingly easy to create. It can be very time consuming to clear up so always plan ahead. I made use of TV slime from a recommended supplier where I arranged for the packs to arrive by mail which includes packets of powdery slime. Once you have the packets, all you need to do is pour the contents of a pack into a meidum sized bucket then slowly pour in warm water then stir for around 5 – 8 minutes.
There have been a number of Comic Relief TV specials produced over the years for popular shows such as Doctor Who and many charity singles have been recored to raise funds. There was a world guiness book of records gunging event which took place in Birmingham where thousands of people were covered in slime for charity.
